President Murmu Calls for Scientific Advancement of Ayurveda at Saushrutam 2026

President inaugurates international seminar and MRI facility at AIIA, urging young researchers to combine traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern scientific innovation.

New Delhi, July 15, 2026; President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday inaugurated the three-day international conference “Saushrutam 2026” at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi, marking the occasion of Sushruta Jayanti. During the event, she also dedicated the institute’s newly established MRI facility, strengthening its advanced diagnostic capabilities.

Addressing medical professionals, academicians, students and researchers, the President paid tribute to Acharya Sushruta, describing his contributions as the foundation of surgical science in ancient India. She noted that his pioneering work in reconstructive surgery, ophthalmology, tumour treatment and ear, nose and throat procedures continues to inspire medical science across the world.

Highlighting the enduring relevance of Ayurveda, President Murmu said India’s traditional healthcare knowledge should evolve with contemporary scientific advancements while preserving its core principles. She emphasized that integrating evidence-based research, digital healthcare systems and standardized clinical practices would further enhance the credibility and global acceptance of Ayurvedic medicine.

The President observed that India‘s efforts to promote Ayurveda and Yoga internationally have significantly expanded their recognition. She said continued investment in scientific validation and technological innovation would strengthen confidence in traditional healthcare systems and encourage wider adoption worldwide.

Encouraging students and young researchers, President Murmu urged them to pursue rigorous research with honesty, curiosity and a scientific mindset. She stressed that embracing emerging technologies wherever appropriate would help generate stronger evidence and accelerate innovation in Ayurvedic medicine without compromising its ethical foundations.

She also reminded future healthcare professionals that compassion, integrity and patient welfare must remain at the heart of medical practice. Drawing inspiration from Acharya Sushruta‘s legacy, she encouraged them to uphold the highest standards of medical ethics throughout their careers.

Expressing optimism about the conference, the President said discussions among leading experts would generate fresh insights into Ayurvedic surgery and deepen international collaboration in the field. She added that such initiatives would further strengthen Ayurveda’s contribution to integrated and holistic healthcare.

Saushrutam 2026 is bringing together eminent surgeons, scholars and researchers from India and several other countries to deliberate on the latest developments, research and innovations in Ayurvedic surgery over the course of the three-day event.
