Bihar Steps In To Bring Home 100 Maharashtra Pilgrims Stranded In Nepal Floods

Patna, August 29, 2026; The Bihar government facilitated the safe return of around 100 pilgrims from Maharashtra who had been stranded in Kathmandu amid flash floods in Nepal, arranging their onward journey by train on Saturday.

The assistance was initiated after the Maharashtra government sought Bihar’s support in bringing the stranded pilgrims back home. Acting swiftly, the Sitamarhi district administration brought the pilgrims from the Nepal border to Sitamarhi on August 28 and ensured that they received food, drinking water and other basic necessities.

The pilgrims later travelled to Patna, reaching the state capital at around 2:30 am on August 29. The district administration arranged accommodation for them at the OP Sah Community Building, where arrangements were made for meals, medical examination and other essential services.

To ensure their return to Maharashtra, the Bihar government coordinated with railway authorities in New Delhi. As part of the special arrangements, two additional coaches were attached to the Patna-Purna Express to accommodate the group.

The pilgrims left Patna at around 7:30 am on Saturday, beginning their journey back to Maharashtra.

The returning pilgrims appreciated the Bihar government’s efforts and thanked the administrations of Sitamarhi and Patna for providing timely assistance and ensuring their safe and comfortable passage home.
