Lucknow : Dr. Nishtha Bhardwaj (M.S. Obstetrics & Gynaecology), born in Baldev Park Colony, Krishna Nagar Assembly Constituency, Delhi, saw her long-cherished dream of achieving academic excellence and professional recognition come true on 15 July 2026, when she was awarded the Gold Medal by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Anandiben Patel, during the Second Convocation Ceremony of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow.

The honour was conferred in recognition of her outstanding academic performance among students from the many government and private medical colleges affiliated with the university. On the occasion, five other doctors received Gold Medals, while four doctors were honoured with Silver Medals.

The convocation ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak, Minister of State for Health Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, Vice Chancellor Major General Dr. Amit Devgan, Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences, Bareilly Chairman Shri Dev Murti, Principal Air Marshal Dr. Mahendra Singh Butola, along with several distinguished guests, faculty members and a large gathering of students.

Addressing the medal recipients, Governor Anandiben Patel urged young doctors to dedicate at least two to three years of service in rural areas, treating patients with empathy, compassion and a spirit of selfless service. She remarked that these formative years would lay the foundation for a bright and meaningful medical career.

Expressing her gratitude, Dr. Nishtha Bhardwaj said that she had earlier secured fifth position in the university during her MBBS. She later completed her M.S. in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from Shri Institute of Medic Ram Murti Smarakal Sciences, Bareilly. According to her, the institution not only trained her to become a doctor but also shaped her into a competent obstetrician and gynaecologist. She described her journey as one of perseverance, patience and continuous self-improvement, emphasising that success came only through hard work and determination.

Dr. Bhardwaj credited her success to all her teachers and mentors. She expressed special gratitude to Dr. Shashibala Arya, who guided her throughout her postgraduate training, and Dr. (Colonel) Manoj Tangri, who encouraged her at every step, believed in her abilities and provided invaluable mentorship.

She dedicated this achievement to her late mother, whose blessings she says continue to inspire her every day. She also expressed heartfelt gratitude to her father for his sacrifices, unwavering faith and constant support, without which this journey would not have been possible. She further thanked her husband and her entire family for standing by her through every challenge and encouraging her to pursue her dreams.

Reflecting on his daughter’s achievement, Rajeev Sharma, social worker and father of Dr. Nishtha Bhardwaj, recalled that as a child, when students were asked what they wanted to become in life, their answers reflected innocent dreams. In a Class II school essay, young Nishtha had written, “I want to become a doctor and help bring babies into the world.” Little did she know then that this dream would one day lead her to earning a Gold Medal in M.S. Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
