New Delhi, August 21, 2026; The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Centre and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to explain what long-term measures can be introduced to prevent technical problems in the board’s on-screen marking system.
A bench hearing the matter asked the authorities to submit their response by Monday and fixed Tuesday for the next hearing.
The issue relates to difficulties reportedly faced during the evaluation process through the on-screen marking system. The court is examining whether a permanent framework should be put in place to deal with such technical issues and protect students from being adversely affected.
During the proceedings, the government informed the court that students who were dissatisfied with their results were given a seven-day opportunity to seek revaluation. According to the submission, around 1.68 lakh students availed themselves of the facility.
The court is expected to consider the government and CBSE responses before deciding what further directions, if any, are required to ensure a more reliable mechanism for handling OSM-related problems in future examinations.
