New Delhi, August 20, 2026; A high-level Indian ministerial delegation led by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held talks with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at The Istana on Thursday, with discussions centred on advancing bilateral economic ties and the implementation of the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership roadmap.
The Indian delegation comprised External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada.
The meeting took place as the Indian ministers participate in the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable and the fourth India-Singapore Business Roundtable in Singapore. The engagements are aimed at reviewing developments in bilateral cooperation and identifying fresh opportunities in trade, investment and other strategic sectors.
During the discussions with Wong, the two sides reviewed progress made under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and considered measures to speed up its implementation. Cooperation in economic engagement, digital technologies, connectivity, skill development and sustainability featured prominently in the talks.
The fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable is examining developments since the previous roundtable in New Delhi in August 2025. The meeting is also expected to chart new areas of collaboration and strengthen the institutional framework supporting the bilateral partnership.
Economic relations remain a major pillar of India-Singapore ties. Singapore emerged as India’s largest source of foreign direct investment during the financial year 2025-26, with investments amounting to USD 19.8 billion, according to figures cited by the Commerce Ministry.
Singapore’s cumulative FDI contribution to India stood at USD 194.68 billion between April 2000 and March 2026, highlighting the country’s growing importance as an investment partner.
Trade between the two countries has also recorded substantial growth over the years. Bilateral trade increased from USD 6.7 billion in FY2004-05 to USD 36.1 billion in FY2025-26, reflecting the expanding economic relationship.
The latest high-level engagement is expected to provide further momentum to cooperation between India and Singapore, particularly in areas linked to investment, technology, connectivity and sustainable economic growth.
