New Delhi, August 13, 2026; External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday joined the nationwide patriotic campaign ahead of Independence Day by sharing a selfie featuring the Indian Tricolour.

The gesture comes as preparations intensify across the country for the 80th Independence Day celebrations. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also highlighted the campaign’s message of bringing the national flag closer to every household.

The Har Ghar Tiranga initiative, launched as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, seeks to encourage citizens to display the national flag at their homes and strengthen a personal connection with the Tiranga.

This year’s campaign carries added significance as India is marking 150 years of Vande Mataram. The celebrations are expected to feature a wide range of public programmes, including Tiranga rallies, cultural events, exhibitions, concerts and bicycle and motorcycle processions.

Several prominent locations are also set to be illuminated in the national colours, while decoration and Rangoli activities will form part of the celebrations. The Selfie with Tiranga initiative is again expected to draw widespread public participation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier urged citizens to actively participate in Har Ghar Tiranga and described the Tricolour as a symbol of national pride and inspiration. He also linked this year’s campaign with the commemoration of Vande Mataram’s 150th anniversary and the broader vision of building a developed India.

With Independence Day approaching, the campaign is expected to gain further momentum as government institutions, communities and citizens prepare to celebrate the national occasion with the Tricolour at the centre of festivities.
