Anurag Kumar Appointed New Delhi Police Commissioner, Succeeds Satish Golcha

Senior IPS officer to lead Delhi Police with over three decades of experience in intelligence, policing and national security

New Delhi, July 17, 2026 : The Central Government has appointed senior IPS officer Anurag Kumar as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police, replacing Satish Golcha as the chief of the national capital’s police force.

The appointment was announced through an order issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. A 1994-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Kumar will take charge with immediate effect from the day he assumes office and will continue in the position until further orders.

Before taking over as Delhi Police Commissioner, Kumar was serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, he has held several key assignments in policing, intelligence and internal security, earning recognition as one of the senior-most officers of the AGMUT cadre.

His service has been recognised with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, reflecting his contributions to law enforcement and national security.

The Home Ministry has also directed outgoing Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha to report to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for his next assignment after handing over charge.

As the new police chief, Kumar will oversee law and order in the national capital while focusing on challenges such as cybercrime, urban policing, public safety and security coordination for major national and international events hosted in Delhi.
