New 33/11 kV Power Substation Inaugurated at Umiya Market in Raipur

Raipur: A new 33/11 kV electricity substation with a capacity of 5 MVA was inaugurated at Umiya Market in Bhanpuri under the Chief Minister’s Electricity Infrastructure Development Scheme. Constructed by the City Division (North) of the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company, the substation is expected to strengthen the local power network and improve the quality and reliability of electricity supply to consumers.

Raipur Rural MLA Motilal Sahu was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony. Zone No. 1 chairman Gajju Sahu, along with councillors Nand Kishore Sahu, Bhagat Ram Harwansh, Manmohan Manhare and Ambika Sahu, and alderman Vikram Singh Thakur attended the event as special guests. Officials said the project includes a 5 MVA power transformer, 0.6 km of 33 kV line and 1.7 km of 11 kV line. The project was completed at an estimated cost of ₹2.31 crore.

The commissioning of the substation will benefit domestic, commercial low-voltage and industrial consumers in the area. Speaking at the event, MLA Motilal Sahu said the new substation would help provide consumers with a more reliable and quality power supply. Earlier, consumers in the Gondwara area were supplied electricity through 11 kV feeders from the Gazi Nagar and Gondwara substations. The long distance from Gazi Nagar and high feeder loads had affected power reliability in Gondwara. Three new 11 kV feeders from the Umiya Market substation will improve load management and reduce disruptions, benefiting Gondwara, New Gondwara Industrial Area, Sardar Patel Market, Bhanpuri and nearby areas. It will also help normalise the load on the Vijay Lakshmi feeder of Gondwara substation, the Umiya Market feeder of Gazi Nagar substation and the Timber Market feeder of Bhanpuri substation, thereby improving the reliability of electricity supply in these areas. The project was completed with the contribution of Chief Engineer (Raipur City) Sanjeev Singh, Additional Chief Engineer Salil Khare, Superintending Engineers Mahesh Thakur, C.H. Markam and M. Vishwakarma, and Executive Engineers Shiv Gupta, P.K. Singh and Rajesh Mishra.
