Delhi Lakshmi Yojna launched with ₹2,500 monthly support, bringing financial assistance and greater independence to eligible women across the capital.
The Impressive TimesNew Delhi, August 26, 2026; The Delhi Government on Wednesday rolled out the Delhi Lakshmi Yojna at Talkatora Stadium, introducing a monthly financial support of ₹2,500 for eligible women in the national capital. The initiative was formally launched in the presence of Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and several other public representatives.
The government said sanction letters have already been issued to 4,190 beneficiaries after completing the required verification process. Financial assistance under the scheme will be transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer system from September 1.
At the launch programme, 65 women symbolically received their sanction letters from the dignitaries. The scheme is aimed at strengthening women’s financial independence and providing them with greater control over household and personal expenses.
The initiative is open to eligible women between 21 and 60 years of age. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said registration for the scheme began on August 1 and more than 9.22 lakh women have registered so far.
The Chief Minister said the assistance has been structured to address both immediate requirements and long-term financial security. Under the arrangement, ₹1,000 will be available through a digital wallet for spending, while ₹1,500 will be directed towards an FD or RD to encourage savings.
Gupta described the initiative as part of the Delhi Government’s broader focus on women-led development. She said financial assistance alone cannot ensure self-reliance and stressed the need to create employment, entrepreneurship and business opportunities for women.
The government also highlighted a provision for collateral-free loans of up to ₹10 crore for small entrepreneurs, which it said could help women and other aspiring business owners overcome difficulties in arranging capital.
Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra said the launch represented progress towards the commitments made by the government for women’s welfare and empowerment. He credited the Delhi Government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta with taking forward initiatives aimed at improving economic opportunities and financial security for women.
He said strengthening women economically would also contribute to greater dignity, confidence and self-reliance among beneficiaries.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu said the scheme would contribute to strengthening women’s dignity and economic independence. He noted that women would have a significant role in the development of Delhi and the country.
Sandhu also welcomed the use of digital transfers, saying the mechanism would promote transparency and improve the delivery of financial assistance to beneficiaries.
Rekha Gupta linked the launch with the festive period of Sawan, Teej and Raksha Bandhan, describing the initiative as a special gesture for Delhi’s women. She said the financial support would allow beneficiaries to meet their requirements while also working towards their future goals.
The Chief Minister said she had sought blessings at the Lakshmi Temple in Vellore before the launch and prayed for the scheme to continue benefiting eligible women regularly.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of women. Beneficiaries raised slogans thanking the Chief Minister as they collected their sanction letters, while cultural performances added to the celebratory atmosphere.
Registration and information counters were also arranged at the venue to assist women seeking information about the scheme and its eligibility requirements.
Several Delhi MPs, ministers, MLAs, councillors and senior government officials attended the launch programme. Among those present were MPs Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Manoj Tiwari, Yogendra Chandolia, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Bansuri Swaraj and Praveen Khandelwal, along with Delhi ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Kumar Singh.
