It is noteworthy that the total installed solar (green) energy capacity of North Central Railway stood at 12.7 MWp by the year 2024-25. An additional 9.7 MWp of solar (green) energy capacity was added during the 2025-26 financial year, bringing the total installed capacity to 22.4 MWp. Subsequently, an additional 4.4 MWp of solar (green) energy capacity was added during the 2026-27 year (April–September), raising the current total installed solar (green) energy capacity to 26.8 MWp.
North Central Railway generated a total of 12.3 million units of electricity (green energy) from its 26.8 MW solar power plants during the first half (April–September) of the 2026-27 financial year. This has reduced our reliance on traditional energy sources and is motivating us to establish even more solar power plants. Solar-based electricity generation resulted in savings of ₹7.7 crore in railway revenue during the 2026-27 fiscal year (April–September), while also preventing the emission of 10,375 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas).

North Central Railway is continuously advancing in the field of energy conservation. Over the past two years, the zone has excelled in this area, achieving remarkable milestones by winning the first prize in the “Zonal Railway Category” at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2023 and the “Uttar Pradesh Energy Conservation Award 2024,” as well as securing a “Certificate of Merit” for Subedarganj Railway Station in the “Building Category.”

These awards have garnered national and global recognition for our efforts and initiatives in energy conservation.
The green energy program was implemented across North Central Railway with great dedication and resolve under the leadership and guidance of Shri J.C.S. Bora, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer.
