New Delhi, October 9: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will close entry and exit gates at 57 metro stations from 9 pm on Friday following a request from Delhi Police ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10.
The restrictions come amid heightened security arrangements for demonstrations planned at Jantar Mantar and other locations in the New Delhi district. According to the report, the police have also suggested reducing train frequency at the identified stations in view of concerns over crowd movement towards sensitive locations.
In a letter dated October 8, the Joint Commissioner of Police, Transport Range, requested DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar to issue the necessary directions to officers and staff to implement the measures.
The restrictions may remain in force throughout October 10 and continue until the situation in the national capital returns to normal.
The stations identified for the proposed restrictions include Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Mandi House, ITO, Delhi Gate, Khan Market, Supreme Court, Indraprastha, INA, Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar, Kashmere Gate, Karol Bagh, Jama Masjid, Vishwavidyalaya, Seelampur, Shahdara and Rohini West.
The move is part of security preparations for the planned CJP protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Commuters travelling through central Delhi and other affected areas have been advised to check official DMRC updates before starting their journeys, as the restrictions could affect station access and travel plans.
The police and metro authorities are coordinating arrangements to manage passenger movement and maintain security during the planned demonstrations.
