Jabalpur, June 21: President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday emphasized the transformative role of education in nation-building while addressing the 36th Convocation Ceremony of Rani Durgavati University in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. She urged students to use their knowledge and skills not only for personal achievements but also for the welfare of society and the development of the nation.
Highlighting the importance of inclusive growth, the President said education remains the most effective tool for empowering individuals and communities. She stressed the need to create greater educational opportunities for tribal youth while preserving their cultural identity, traditions, and heritage.
Murmu encouraged academic institutions to document and promote tribal knowledge systems, traditional skills, and indigenous crafts. She said such efforts would enrich society and help preserve valuable cultural assets for future generations.
The President underlined that higher education institutions should serve as centers of innovation, research, and creativity. She said universities have a responsibility to nurture scientific thinking, entrepreneurial spirit, and problem-solving abilities among students.
According to her, academic institutions should also strengthen students’ connection with Indian culture, languages, and traditions while preparing them for the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Murmu called for greater emphasis on studies and research that directly benefit society. She said subjects such as environmental protection, women’s empowerment, social harmony, sanitation, and the upliftment of marginalized communities should be integrated into academic programs.
Such research, she noted, can contribute significantly to policy-making and sustainable national development.
Addressing graduating students, the President urged them to build their lives on timeless values such as truth, compassion, honesty, non-violence, and service. She said these principles have remained relevant across generations and can help young people navigate complex challenges with confidence.
“You are not only representatives of your families and universities but also the architects of India’s future,” she told the students.
The President highlighted India’s rapid progress in areas such as digital technology, startups, green energy, modern infrastructure, and space exploration. She encouraged young graduates to seize these opportunities and establish themselves on the global stage.
She also stressed the importance of environmental responsibility, urging students to support sustainable development through water conservation, biodiversity protection, clean energy adoption, and responsible use of natural resources. The event also reflected Madhya Pradesh’s growing focus on education and tribal welfare under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The state has been actively promoting educational access, skill development, and initiatives aimed at preserving tribal heritage while integrating communities into the mainstream development process.
The convocation ceremony brought together students, faculty members, and dignitaries, celebrating academic excellence while reinforcing the role of education in building a stronger and more inclusive India.
