Opposition Leaders Hold Strategy Meeting as Parliament Monsoon Session Sees Fresh Disruptions

New Delhi, July 22: The third day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament witnessed heightened political activity as leaders of several opposition parties assembled for a strategy meeting chaired by Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. The discussion focused on coordinating a common approach to raise key issues and challenge the government’s position during the ongoing session.

The meeting took place in Kharge’s chamber in Parliament amid continued tensions between the opposition and the Centre. Senior leaders from multiple parties participated in the deliberations to formulate a united parliamentary strategy.

Proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were disrupted soon after they began. Opposition members raised slogans and staged protests inside the Houses, forcing the presiding officers to adjourn both sessions until noon.

Outside Parliament, opposition MPs intensified their protest by wearing black outfits as a symbolic mark of dissent. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and leaders from several other opposition parties joined the demonstration.

The protest was organised to condemn the alleged use of force against students and opposition leaders during recent demonstrations. Members of the Congress, Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress participated in the coordinated protest, describing it as a united stand against what they termed the government‘s response to student movements and concerns surrounding the education system.

Addressing the media, Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Central government of undermining democratic values and criticised the handling of opposition protests. He also alleged that individuals linked to the BJP and RSS were present during police action without proper identification, while asserting that attempts to suppress opposition voices would face strong public resistance.

The developments come a day after Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several Congress leaders were detained by Delhi Police during a protest near Lok Kalyan Marg. They were subsequently released after being taken into custody.

The latest events indicate that confrontations between the government and the opposition are likely to continue as the Monsoon Session progresses, with both sides expected to remain firm on their respective positions.
