New Delhi — Motilal Nehru College in New Delhi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with One Just World to serve exclusively plant-based meals at all its National Service Scheme (NSS) camps, replacing conventional animal-based meals.
The partnership also establishes an Animals, People and Planet (APP) Club at the college to organise and support student-led initiatives that promote animal welfare, environmental sustainability and human well-being.
“The collaboration builds on similar efforts at other educational institutions in partnership with One Just World. Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology in Noida and Oriental University in Indore have also taken steps to advance plant-based meals and student-led campus engagement for animal and planetary well-being,” said Jagriti Kaushik, Campaigns Manager at One Just World.
Under the partnership, OJW will provide structured methodologies, mentorship, educational toolkits and capacity-building sessions to help students plan and sustain APP Club initiatives.
“This MoU is a really good opportunity for us to learn more about animal welfare and the environment through practical experiences,” said Milli Garg, the college’s NSS President.
Dr Sandeep Kumar, Programme Officer, NSS, Motilal Nehru College, said:
“This MoU is a significant step towards creating a greener and more sustainable future. We believe that by empowering students, educators and communities to actively participate in sustainability efforts, we can build a culture of environmental responsibility.”
This commitment could set a precedent for other colleges within the University of Delhi to strengthen their sustainability and animal welfare initiatives for the greater good of the planet.
