Jamia Protest Erupts Over RSS Centenary Event Amid Tight Security

Students raise slogans, allege ‘saffronisation’ as police, RAF deployed on campus

New Delhi- Tensions escalated at Jamia Millia Islamia on Tuesday as more than 50 students staged a protest against an event marking 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), held under heavy security presence.

Amid deployment of Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force, protesting students gathered near the venue holding placards and raising slogans such as “Long live the revolution” and “Jamia is our university, not your branch.” The demonstration took place outside the auditorium where the RSS-linked programme was being conducted.

The protesters, affiliated with student groups including Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and All India Students’ Association (AISA), demanded that RSS representatives leave the campus, alleging that the event was a “provocation” and part of attempts to influence the university environment.

The event was organised as part of the ‘Yuva Kumbh’ initiative to mark the RSS centenary. Student leaders criticised the university administration for allowing the programme, claiming unequal treatment compared to other student activities that often face restrictions.

Despite the protest, security forces maintained tight control over the situation, and no major untoward incident was reported. Visuals from the campus showed students protesting in high temperatures, reflecting the intensity of opposition.

The development comes amid a broader backdrop of RSS-linked events in educational institutions across Delhi, which have sparked debates and drawn criticism from sections of students and faculty.
