Lucknow, May 13, 2026: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has expressed deep sorrow over the death of his half brother Prateek Yadav, who passed away at a hospital in Lucknow. He described the loss as deeply painful and said he had known him since childhood.
Prateek Yadav, son of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and husband of BJP leader Aparna Yadav, died at the age of 38 at Civil Hospital in Lucknow early Wednesday morning. Doctors said he was brought in a critical condition and was declared dead shortly after arrival. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after postmortem examination.
Akhilesh Yadav recalled that Prateek was very focused on his health from a young age and had ambitions to progress in life and contribute meaningfully. He also mentioned that he had met him a few months ago and had advised him to take care of his health and business activities.
He further said that emotional stress caused by financial losses in business can sometimes deeply affect individuals, adding that he would respect whatever decisions the family takes regarding the situation.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed condolences, calling the incident extremely painful and prayed for strength for the bereaved family.
