New Momentum for Delhi’s Development: Union Home & Cooperation Minister Amit Shah Gifts Projects Worth ₹1,941 Crore

New Delhi- As part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday dedicated development projects worth ₹1,941 crore to the people of Delhi. The Home Minister inaugurated the Barapullah Elevated Road Phase-III and the Mukarba Chowk Underpass. He also laid the foundation stones for the construction of the Modi Mill-Savitri Cinema Flyover and the Loni Underpass.

Delhi Chief Minister  Rekha Gupta thanked  Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying that better coordination and cooperation between the Central and Delhi governments was giving a fresh push to modern, robust and citizen-centric infrastructure in the capital. The Centre and Delhi Government are committed to addressing the long-standing needs of Delhi residents and strengthening connectivity across the capital.

The Chief Minister said the Delhi Government was working to create a strong network of roads, flyovers, underpasses and elevated corridors to make travel between different parts of the city easier, reduce traffic pressure and save commuters’ time. The projects inaugurated and launched on Tuesday are an important step in this direction.

Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Delhi Government Cabinet Ministers  Parvesh Sahib Singh,  Ashish Sood, Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra and Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh, along with several MLAs, senior officials and other dignitaries, were present on the occasion.

Centre-Delhi coordination giving momentum to development

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said better coordination between the Centre and Delhi Government at the levels of policy, planning and implementation was directly benefiting the people of Delhi. Working with the Central Government to realise Prime Minister  Narendra Modi Ji’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Viksit Delhi’, the Delhi Government was expanding modern infrastructure across the capital. She said the projects being dedicated to Delhi today were not merely roads, flyovers and underpasses, but important facilities linked to saving the time of lakhs of Delhi residents, improving connectivity, making travel easier and enhancing their quality of life.

The Chief Minister expressed her gratitude for the Central Government’s support and said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had been providing continuous cooperation and guidance to accelerate Delhi’s development. She said the Delhi Government would continue to work in coordination with the Centre to expedite pending development works, build modern infrastructure and make Delhi a more accessible, capable, safe and developed capital.

Fresh impetus to infrastructure development: PWD Minister

PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said Tuesday was an important day for Delhi’s infrastructure. The inauguration of Barapullah Phase-III and the Mukarba Chowk Underpass, along with the foundation stones for the Loni Underpass and Savitri Cinema-Modi Mill Flyover, marked important steps towards improving connectivity in Delhi.

He said dedicating these projects to the people of Delhi under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan being observed on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday was a special moment. He thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his support in taking the vision of a Viksit Delhi forward on the ground and Chief Minister  Rekha Gupta for her support. He said the aim was to develop Delhi’s infrastructure in a way that directly improves people’s daily commute, saves time and makes travel more convenient.

Barapullah Phase-III to improve connectivity between east and south Delhi

The opening of Barapullah Elevated Road Phase-III will strengthen signal-free connectivity from Mayur Vihar Phase-I through Sarai Kale Khan to South Delhi and the AIIMS area. The nearly 10.9-km elevated corridor has been connected to the existing Barapullah network. The project has nine loops to facilitate the smooth movement of traffic in different directions. Separate facilities have also been developed for pedestrians and cyclists. This will provide better connectivity for people travelling to and from East Delhi, South-East Delhi and Noida and help reduce traffic pressure on major routes. The corridor will serve as an important signal-free link connecting key parts of Delhi.

Mukarba Chowk Underpass to benefit thousands of vehicles every day

The Mukarba Chowk Underpass has been constructed to make traffic movement on the Outer Ring Road smoother. The project includes two vehicular underpasses and one pedestrian underpass. The project is expected to benefit around 15,800 vehicles every day. It will provide direct access for traffic travelling from Badli and Rohini towards Azadpur and Jahangirpuri without entering the Mukarba Chowk interchange. A separate underpass for pedestrians and non-motorised traffic near Haiderpur Badli Mor Metro Station will also make movement safer.

Modi Mill Flyover to improve connectivity up to Kalkaji

The foundation stone has been laid for the extension of the Modi Mill Flyover to strengthen traffic movement in South Delhi. The project will strengthen signal-free movement from Modi Mill towards Kalkaji and further in the direction of the IIT Gate. It will help reduce pressure at major traffic junctions in South Delhi, including Captain Gaur Marg-Outer Ring Road, and make movement between Nehru Place, Kalkaji, Greater Kailash and surrounding areas more convenient.

Savitri Cinema Flyover to provide a new route for traffic

The foundation stone has also been laid for a new parallel flyover at the Savitri Cinema junction. The proposed flyover aims to reduce traffic pressure around the Outer Ring Road and GK-2 Road and provide a smoother route for vehicles travelling towards Nehru Place, Okhla and surrounding areas.

Loni Road Underpass to ease movement between Loni and Shahdara

The foundation stone has also been laid for the construction of the Loni Road roundabout underpass. The project aims to make traffic movement between Loni Road and Shahdara smoother and reduce the pressure of vehicles at the Loni Road roundabout. The proposed underpass will be four lanes wide. Its construction will reduce the need for vehicles travelling to and from Loni to stop at the roundabout and help make movement towards Shahdara smoother.
