India and Canada reaffirm commitment to expand trade, investment, and economic cooperation through stronger business engagement and CEPA negotiations.

New Delhi, May 29, 2026: India and Canada have reiterated their resolve to deepen economic cooperation and accelerate trade and investment engagement through stronger commercial partnerships and enhanced market connectivity.

During high-level discussions held under the Canada-India Trade and Investment Forum, Canada’s Minister Sidhu and India’s Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral economic ties to generate new business opportunities and support long-term economic growth in both nations.

Minister Sidhu welcomed Minister Goyal along with what was described as the largest Indian business delegation ever sent abroad, highlighting the growing importance of economic collaboration between the two countries. Both sides identified major opportunities for cooperation in sectors including clean energy, critical minerals, agri-food processing, advanced manufacturing, digital innovation, and skill development.

The two ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to concluding negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by the end of the year. They noted that the proposed agreement would improve market access, strengthen resilient supply chains, and promote balanced economic growth for both countries.

As part of efforts to encourage stronger industry-level engagement, the ministers officially launched the Canada-India Trade and Investment Forum. The platform is expected to facilitate interaction between business leaders from both nations and encourage fresh commercial collaborations.

The leaders further stressed the importance of improving connectivity between India and Canada through enhanced people-to-people relations, smoother business mobility, and stronger commercial networks.

In another key announcement, Minister Sidhu confirmed that Canada will lead a “Team Canada” Trade Mission to India later this year, reflecting the increasing interest of Canadian companies in exploring opportunities within the Indian market.

India and Canada also agreed to promote long-term investments in priority sectors and encourage greater cooperation among businesses, innovators, and institutional stakeholders. Both sides committed to maintaining regular dialogue and working toward concrete economic outcomes in the coming months.
