PM Narendra Modi Urges Citizens to Stay Safe Amid Intense Heatwave Across India

Prime Minister appeals for hydration, care for elderly, and compassion towards birds and animals during soaring temperatures

New Delhi, May 27, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appealed to citizens across the country to remain cautious as several parts of India continue to witness extreme heat conditions and rising temperatures.

In a public message, the Prime Minister urged people to drink sufficient water, carry water while stepping outdoors and help others by offering drinking water during the severe heatwave conditions.

He said simple acts of kindness can make a major difference during such difficult weather situations.

The Prime Minister advised citizens to remain alert to symptoms linked to heat exhaustion, including dizziness, nausea, headaches and unusual fatigue. He stressed that anyone showing signs of discomfort should immediately be shifted to a cool and shaded place and be provided with water, ORS and other fluids.

He cautioned that children, senior citizens and outdoor workers are particularly vulnerable to extreme temperatures and said negligence could lead to dangerous conditions such as heatstroke.

Modi also asked people to regularly contact elderly parents, grandparents and relatives during the ongoing heatwave. He urged families to ensure that senior citizens stay hydrated, avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours and get proper rest.

Highlighting the need for compassion during harsh weather conditions, the Prime Minister appealed to citizens to keep bowls of water outside homes, shops, balconies, terraces and offices for birds and stray animals affected by the intense heat.

He said even a small container filled with water could become a lifesaving support for thirsty birds and animals during the summer season.
