Patna, May 27, 2026: The Bihar government has made it compulsory for all state government employees to visit tourist destinations within the state once every three months, in a move aimed at promoting local tourism and improving feedback-based development of travel sites.
As per the directive issued by the General Administration Department on May 20, employees will have to undertake a two-day and two-night trip with their families to Bihar’s tourist locations. The visits are expected to be scheduled preferably over weekends to ensure minimal impact on official work.
During each trip, employees must visit at least three different tourist destinations, including eco-tourism and rural tourism sites. The order also specifies that these locations should be outside the employee’s home district to ensure wider exposure to the state’s tourism landscape.
After completing the travel, employees will be required to submit a detailed report highlighting their experiences, observations, and suggestions for improvement. Photographs from the visits must also be attached as part of the documentation
The government has clarified that the duration of these mandatory trips will be considered official duty, ensuring employees do not face any loss of leave or salary benefits during the period of travel. The initiative is aimed at strengthening tourism promotion through firsthand administrative engagement.
