New Delhi, May 27, 2026: A 28-year-old woman from Uganda who was briefly kept under medical observation in Bengaluru after showing mild illness has tested negative for Ebola virus disease, the Health Ministry confirmed on Wednesday, putting all concerns of an outbreak to rest in India.

The woman, who had recently arrived from East Africa, was moved from a hotel to a government-run infectious diseases hospital in Bengaluru after she reported symptoms such as body ache and general discomfort. She was isolated as a precautionary measure while doctors conducted detailed screening.

Authorities stated that the case was managed strictly under precautionary protocols, and international health guidelines issued by the World Health Organization were fully followed during surveillance and testing.

After laboratory evaluation, officials confirmed that the patient does not carry the Ebola virus, and there is currently no confirmed Ebola case reported anywhere in the country. Health teams continue routine monitoring and preparedness measures in coordination with state health departments.

Officials further added that close contact tracing and preventive surveillance steps were briefly activated but have now been scaled down following the negative test result.
