‘From Potholes to Progress’: PM Modi Targets SP, Congress at Hardoi Rally

Prime Minister highlights infrastructure growth in Uttar Pradesh, says state now leads in expressways and airports.

HardoiPrime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a sharp political attack on opposition parties, claiming that Uttar Pradesh has undergone a major transformation from poor infrastructure to rapid development.

Speaking at an event following the inauguration of the Ganga Expressway, Modi criticised the Samajwadi Party and the Indian National Congress, alleging that earlier governments had left the state struggling with damaged roads and law-and-order issues.

He said the state, once associated with pothole-ridden roads, has now emerged as a leader in infrastructure development. Highlighting progress, the Prime Minister noted that Uttar Pradesh currently has the highest number of expressways in the country and around 21 airports, including several international ones.

Referring to the past image of the state, Modi said crime and “jungle raj” had once defined Uttar Pradesh, adding that the law-and-order situation has significantly improved in recent years. He also remarked that the state is culturally rich, being associated with Lord Ram and Lord Krishna, but its reputation had suffered due to earlier governance.

Addressing global concerns, Modi said that despite ongoing conflicts and instability in various parts of the world, India continues to move forward steadily on the path of development. He alleged that both external forces and internal political opponents are attempting to slow down the country’s progress.

Calling for a stronger push towards self-reliance, he reiterated the government’s focus on building modern infrastructure and strengthening the economy. The Prime Minister described the Ganga Expressway as a key milestone in this journey.

The remarks come at a time when political activity is expected to intensify in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
