‘Maa Yamuna Riverbank Cleanliness Drive’ to Be Held at 28 Ghats on June 14 Under CM Rekha Gupta’s Leadership

CM to Lead Drive at Geeta Colony Ghat, MPs, Union Ministers of State, Delhi Ministers and Dignitaries to Join at Various Locations

New Delhi, 13 June 2026- Under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister  Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government will organise the ‘Maa Yamuna Riverbank Cleanliness Drive’ across 28 ghats of the Yamuna River on Sunday, June 14. Organised under the message ‘Ek Sankalp – Swachh Yamuna’ (One Resolve – Clean Yamuna), the campaign will be an important initiative towards restoring the Yamuna to its former glory, cleaning the riverbanks, increasing public awareness about environmental conservation, and transforming public participation into a broad-based people’s movement. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will personally lead the cleanliness drive at Thokar No. 14, Geeta Colony Ghat, where she will join thousands of citizens in voluntary service and strengthen the collective resolve for a clean, pristine and life-giving Yamuna. Ministers of the Delhi Government and other dignitaries will also participate in the campaign.

A Resolve to Clean the Yamuna Through Public Participation

This special campaign will be conducted at Yamuna ghats from 6:00 a.m. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Yamuna is not merely a river but a cultural, religious and environmental heritage of Delhi. The protection and cleanliness of the Yamuna are not only the responsibility of the government but also the duty of every citizen. The campaign is being organised with the objective of taking this message to the people and encouraging collective participation. The cleanliness of the Yamuna is not a one-day programme but a continuous public movement that requires the participation of every section of society.

Campaign to Be Conducted Simultaneously Across 28 Ghats and Riverbanks

According to the Chief Minister, cleanliness and public awareness activities will be carried out simultaneously across various ghats, riverbanks and riverfront areas of the Yamuna on June 14. The campaign will be conducted simultaneously at several prominent locations, including Chilla Village Ghat, Nizamuddin Ghat, Thokar No. 14 Geeta Colony Ghat, Thokar No. 18 Gandhi Nagar Ghat, Purana Lohe Pul Ghat, Signature Bridge-Wazirabad Ghat (Eastern Bank), Dedh Pushta Ghat (Sonia Vihar), Chautha Pushta Ghat (Sonia Vihar), Kartavya Kunj Ghat (West Bank), Hathi Ghat near the ITO Old Railway Bridge, Ram Ghat, Kali Ghat, Shyam Ghat, Yamuna Bank, Yamuneshwar Ghat, Wazirabad Yamuna Biodiversity Park (Right Bank), Railway Bridge Yamuna Bank, ITO Downstream Western Bank-1, ITO Downstream Western Bank-2, ITO Upstream Right Bank, Sarai Kale Khan R/B, Thokar No. 13, Kunderiya Ghat, Nigam Bodh Ghat, Eastern Bank Downstream Wazirabad, and Kalindi Kunj Downstream (Eastern Bank), among other key locations.

MPs, Ministers and Other Public Representatives to Lead Activities at Various Ghats

Around 500 social, religious, educational and voluntary organisations, along with thousands of volunteers and Delhi residents, will participate in the mega campaign. To ensure broad public support and participation, Members of Parliament, senior public representatives and other distinguished personalities will also be present at different locations. Chief Minister  Rekha Gupta will be present at Thokar No. 14 Geeta Colony Ghat. Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra will participate in the campaign at Yamuna Bank.

Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta will be present at the Old Railway Bridge Downstream Eastern Bank, while Deputy Speaker  Mohan Singh Bisht will be present at Dedh Pushta, Sonia Vihar. Delhi Government Water Minister  Parvesh Sahib Singh will lead the campaign at Hathi Ghat on the ITO Downstream Western Bank. Environment Minister  Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa will lead activities at Thokar No. 13. Social Welfare Minister  Ravinder Indraj Singh will be present at the Western Bank below Signature Bridge. Development and Tourism Minister  Kapil Mishra will lead the campaign at Zero Pushta Shri Radha Krishna Ghat, while Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh will lead activities at the Old Railway Bridge Upstream Eastern Bank.

Message of Yamuna Conservation Alongside Cleanliness

During the campaign, citizens will be encouraged to take a pledge that they will not immerse religious offerings, flowers, garlands or idols in the river, will not use polythene or single-use plastic, will not throw old clothes, waste or any other garbage into the Yamuna, will keep the riverbanks clean and will encourage others to contribute towards the cleanliness of the Yamuna. The objective of the campaign is not merely to remove waste but to transform Yamuna conservation into a people’s movement.

Campaign Inspired by the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Vision

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that under the leadership of Prime Minister  Narendra Modi , cleanliness, environmental conservation, river rejuvenation and public participation-based development have received a new direction across the country. Inspired by Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat resolve and his vision for environmental conservation, the Delhi Government is committed to transforming the rejuvenation of the Yamuna into a people’s movement. The cleanliness of the Yamuna is not only an environmental issue but also a responsibility towards future generations. In keeping with this vision, the Delhi Government is continuously working with all sections of society to make the Yamuna clean, pristine and free-flowing.

Inspired by the Success of the ‘Meri Yamuna, Mera Kartavya’ Campaign

The Chief Minister said that a large-scale effort had also been undertaken last year through the ‘Meri Yamuna, Mera Kartavya’ (My Yamuna, My Duty) campaign to clean the Yamuna and its ghats. Thousands of volunteers participated in that campaign, and more than 12 tonnes of waste were collected and scientifically disposed of. The encouraging public support received by the campaign demonstrated that significant positive change is possible when the government and society work together. Building on that experience, this year’s campaign is being organised on a much larger scale.
