YouTube Records Biggest-Ever FIFA World Cup Audience, Says Sundar Pichai

YouTube witnessed its highest-ever audience for FIFA World Cup content during the recently concluded tournament, with more than 1.7 billion people worldwide watching related videos, according to Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

Sharing the achievement on social media platform X, Pichai said the tournament marked a historic milestone for YouTube, adding that total lifetime views of FIFA World Cup-related content on the platform have now crossed 200 billion.

Pichai described the event as YouTube’s most successful World Cup in terms of viewership and thanked football fans across the globe for their engagement throughout the competition.

Earlier, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan had also highlighted the platform’s record-breaking performance during the tournament. He revealed that over 1.7 billion unique viewers followed FIFA World Cup content on YouTube, while overall lifetime views surpassed the 200-billion mark.

Mohan also noted the growing influence of digital creators during the event. According to him, videos produced by YouTube creators generated more than 2.5 billion views, offering fans match analysis, reactions, and exclusive perspectives throughout the competition. He further said that YouTube’s inaugural Creator Cup attracted over 10 million live viewers.

Congratulating Spain on lifting the FIFA World Cup trophy, Mohan praised the efforts of YouTube’s creators, partners and employees for delivering an enhanced viewing experience to football audiences worldwide.

Spain clinched the championship with a 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in the final. Ferran Torres netted the decisive goal in the 106th minute after connecting with a headed pass from Nico Williams.

Spain controlled much of the final, while Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez produced a series of outstanding saves to keep his side in contention before Torres finally broke the deadlock. The triumph secured Spain’s second FIFA World Cup title, their first since 2010, and capped an unbeaten tournament following their UEFA Euro 2024 success.
