NHAI’s Project Saksham Empowers Rural Women Through Skill Development Across India

Over 6,000 youth trained under women focused initiative aimed at livelihood generation and financial independence

New Delhi May 15 2026: The National Highways Authority of India has strengthened its commitment to inclusive social development through Project Saksham, a nationwide initiative designed to equip rural women with vocational skills and sustainable employment opportunities.

Implemented in collaboration with the Vertis Foundation, the programme focuses on creating long term economic empowerment by providing structured skill development and direct access to livelihood opportunities. Through 12 training centres established across the country, the initiative is reaching underserved communities and preparing participants for entry into the formal workforce.

According to official data, more than 6,000 youth have been trained so far under the programme, with over 4,000 beneficiaries successfully securing employment across various sectors. A significant majority of participants are women, accounting for more than 80 percent of total beneficiaries, highlighting the project’s strong emphasis on gender inclusive growth.

Participants are trained in a wide range of practical and market relevant skills, including tailoring, electrical work, plumbing, healthcare support services, appliance repair, and technical trades. These programmes are aimed at enhancing employability while helping women from rural communities achieve greater financial independence.

The initiative also addresses social and cultural barriers through grassroots level community engagement, encouraging families to support women’s participation in workforce training and employment. Officials said Project Saksham reflects NHAI’s broader vision that infrastructure development should not only improve connectivity but also generate meaningful social and economic opportunities for communities residing along national highways.

By linking skill development with livelihood creation, Project Saksham is contributing to stronger local economies while supporting broader national goals of women empowerment and inclusive growth.
