Aizawl, Mizoram, March 15, 2025- In a significant step towards fulfilling a long-standing demand, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, formally transferred the Assam Rifles Battalion land to the Government of Mizoram today in Aizawl. The event also included the official exchange of maps, symbolizing the successful conclusion of a three-decade-old request.
The ceremony was attended by Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma, the Union Home Secretary, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, and the Director General of Assam Rifles, along with other senior officials and dignitaries.
On this occasion, Shri Amit Shah emphasized the importance of this decision, calling it a “historic milestone” for Mizoram’s growth and development. He highlighted that the transfer addresses a 35-year-old public demand to relocate the Assam Rifles Battalion due to space constraints in Aizawl. This move will open new avenues for infrastructure development and public facilities in the region.
Shri Shah credited the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for fulfilling this long-pending demand. He stated that the decision not only meets an administrative requirement but also reflects the government’s commitment to the welfare and progress of
Mizoram.

Shri Shah highlighted that the Modi government has transformed the North-East with unprecedented development in sectors including tourism, technology, sports, space, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.
Shri Amit Shah reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to a “developed, peaceful, secure, and beautiful Mizoram.” He noted that since 2014, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has visited the North-East 78 times, compared to only 21 visits by all previous Prime Ministers since independence. Union Ministers have made over 700 visits to the region in the past decade, a significant increase from 71 visits before 2014.
The Union Home Minister affirmed that the transfer of Assam Rifles Battalion land marks a pivotal moment for Mizoram’s future, paving the way for holistic development and modern infrastructure.
