Mohan Bhagwat on LGBTQ+ says the community is an integral part of Indian society and deserves dignity and acceptance.

New Delhi, July 27:
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has said that members of the LGBTQ+ community are an integral part of society and should not be excluded or treated with discrimination.

Addressing an event in Telangana, Bhagwat said the presence of LGBTQ+ individuals is not a new phenomenon and has existed throughout history, including in India. He stated that Indian traditions have long acknowledged their existence and recognised their right to live with dignity.

He explained that some people are born with a different sexual orientation or gender identity, while others may come to understand it later in life. According to Bhagwat, society should respond with empathy rather than prejudice.

The RSS chief said India’s cultural traditions have historically accommodated people from diverse backgrounds and encouraged a compassionate approach instead of viewing them as inferior. He added that the country has recognised the community’s place in religious and social life, pointing to the existence of temples, spiritual leaders, and participation of transgender saints in major religious gatherings such as the Kumbh Mela.

Bhagwat also spoke about gender equality, saying debates over whether men or women are superior are unnecessary. He argued that both genders have complementary roles and that society functions best when men and women work together with mutual respect.

Commenting on the status of women, Bhagwat said it is wrong to view marriage or family life as a system of subordination. He maintained that neither men nor women can accomplish everything alone, emphasising cooperation and partnership as the foundation of a healthy society.

His remarks on LGBTQ+ inclusion and gender roles have drawn attention as discussions on equality, social acceptance, and individual rights continue across the country.
