Batwara 1947 Cleared by CBFC Without Cuts Ahead of August 14 Release

Sunny Deol Batwara 1947 has received CBFC clearance without any cuts, clearing the path for its worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026. The historical drama, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, explores the emotional aftermath of India’s Partition through a moving story of courage and humanity.

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film explores the emotional and human consequences of India’s Partition in 1947. Inspired by celebrated playwright Asghar Wajahat’s renowned play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai, the story focuses on compassion, resilience and coexistence during one of the most turbulent chapters in the subcontinent‘s history.

The narrative follows a refugee family that migrates to Lahore after Partition and settles in a deserted Hindu residence. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they discover that an elderly Hindu woman still lives in the house and refuses to abandon the home where she has spent her life. As tensions rise, the story gradually unfolds into a moving tale of empathy, shared humanity and mutual respect beyond religious and political divisions.

Sunny Deol plays the lead role of a man who chooses justice and compassion over hatred during a time marked by violence and uncertainty. Veteran actor Shabana Azmi portrays the elderly woman whose determination to remain in her ancestral home becomes the emotional heart of the film.

Recently, the makers unveiled a new poster while confirming the film‘s release date. The artwork features an illuminated idol of Lord Krishna placed against the backdrop of the Partition era, reflecting the film’s themes of faith, hope and moral courage.

Produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, the film features an ensemble cast including Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khhushi Hajare and Kanikka Kapur alongside the lead actors.

The soundtrack has been composed by A.R. Rahman, with lyrics written by Javed Akhtar. The recently released song, Kahaan Chale Gaye Ho Ram, has drawn attention for its emotional appeal and connection to the film’s central theme.
