Speculation surrounding Salman Khan’s upcoming film Battle of Galwan heading directly to streaming platforms has been put to rest, with sources indicating that the project is firmly intended for a theatrical release.
Amid ongoing chatter about changes in the film’s content, including the removal of certain geopolitical references, industry insiders have clarified that there are no plans to skip cinemas. According to reports cited by Bollywood Hungama, the makers remain committed to bringing the film to audiences on the big screen.
A source close to the production stated that the scale and vision of the film make it best suited for theatres. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the project is being mounted as a large-scale cinematic experience, reinforcing the decision to opt for a theatrical rollout.
Another industry insider also addressed a common misconception about direct-to-digital releases. They noted that films released on OTT platforms are still subject to certification requirements, similar to theatrical releases, and cannot bypass regulatory approvals.
Battle of Galwan has reportedly undergone significant revisions in recent months. Earlier versions of the film were said to be inspired by the Galwan Valley clash, depicting tensions between Indian and Chinese forces.
However, the filmmakers have since altered the narrative direction. Reports suggest that references to specific countries and locations have been toned down or removed, and portions of the film are being reshot to align with the revised vision.
A teaser released earlier had showcased Salman Khan portraying an Indian Army officer leading troops in an intense combat setting. The visuals drew attention internationally, including criticism from Chinese state-affiliated media outlets, which alleged misrepresentation of facts.
The film is produced under the banner of Salman Khan Films and also features Chitrangda Singh in a key role. The story is now said to focus on themes of bravery, sacrifice, and personal relationships, blending action with emotional depth.
While anticipation remains high, the makers have yet to announce an official release date.
