Curiosity Turns Fatal: Five Killed in Twin Train Incident in Prayagraj

Passengers who stepped onto tracks after initial accident were struck by another train, prompting safety concerns

A tragic sequence of events unfolded in Prayagraj on Wednesday evening, where five people lost their lives in two linked railway incidents near the Pachdevra halt overbridge.

According to railway officials, the situation began when a man was fatally hit by the Kalka Express, forcing the train to halt. During the stoppage, several passengers reportedly got down from the general compartments and moved onto the tracks to see what had happened.

In a devastating turn, another train — the Purushottam Express — approached on a parallel track and struck a group of these onlookers. Four individuals were killed instantly in the second incident.

Railway authorities confirmed that many passengers had remained dangerously close to or on the tracks despite the risks. Officials emphasized that stepping onto railway tracks during such situations is extremely hazardous and strictly prohibited.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Baliram Bhagat (36) from Siwan in Bihar, Sunil Kumar from Mirzapur, and Aakash from Firozabad. The identities of the remaining victims are yet to be confirmed.

Shashikant Tripathi, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Central Railway, stated that the accident occurred because passengers left the train and gathered on the tracks during the halt.

Following the incident, Yogi Adityanath expressed grief and instructed officials to immediately reach the site and oversee relief measures.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact sequence of events and assess any lapses in safety protocols.
