CM Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ Opens to Massive Fan Celebrations Across Tamil Nadu

Tamil superstar-turned-Chief Minister Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan hit theatres on Thursday amid unprecedented excitement, with thousands of fans thronging cinema halls across Tamil Nadu to celebrate its release. The opening day witnessed a carnival-like atmosphere as admirers gathered hours before the first show, turning theatres into vibrant celebration zones.

In several cities, including Chennai and Coimbatore, fans danced to drum beats, burst confetti, waved banners and chanted slogans in support of Vijay. Giant cut-outs of the actor adorned theatre premises, while many supporters arrived wearing customised Jana Nayagan T-shirts and carrying posters of the film.

For many fans, the release carried emotional significance as Jana Nayagan is widely believed to be Vijay’s final film before devoting himself fully to politics following his elevation as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister. Moviegoers described the occasion as a memorable moment that combined cinema with the state’s evolving political landscape.

Adding to the excitement, a group of Vijay’s admirers from Japan travelled to Chennai to watch the film on its opening day, reflecting the actor’s popularity beyond India. Social media platforms were flooded with videos showing packed theatres, energetic celebrations and long queues outside multiplexes and single-screen cinemas.

Several fans also decorated their cars and motorcycles with Jana Nayagan stickers, while many families attended the first-day-first-show screenings together, highlighting the film’s broad appeal among audiences of different age groups.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features an ensemble cast including Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani and Narain alongside Vijay. The film’s soundtrack has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, editing by Pradeep E. Ragav and production design by V. Selvakumar.
