Raghav Chadha targets Kejriwal over ‘Sheesh Mahal 2’ after BJP switch

Former AAP leader backs BJP’s claims, links residence row to party’s Delhi poll setback

New Delhi- In his first public criticism after joining the BJP, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Saturday took aim at Arvind Kejriwal, reviving the controversy around the alleged “Sheesh Mahal 2” residence.

Chadha echoed the BJP’s allegations, suggesting that the issue surrounding Kejriwal’s official residence had contributed significantly to the Aam Aadmi Party’s defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections. He said the party must reflect on its decisions and public perception.

His remarks came shortly after similar accusations were raised by BJP leaders, including Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, who alleged that Kejriwal moved into another high-end government bungalow after vacating his earlier residence.

The controversy centres around a Type VII bungalow in Delhi’s Lodhi Estate, with the BJP claiming that premium facilities were added using questionable means. The party has repeatedly used the term “Sheesh Mahal” to criticise the alleged lavish renovations linked to Kejriwal’s tenure as chief minister.

However, the AAP has strongly rejected the allegations. Senior leader Atishi dismissed the claims as fabricated, stating that the images circulated by BJP leaders were misleading and sourced from the internet to defame Kejriwal.

The “Sheesh Mahal” issue has been a recurring political flashpoint. Earlier, the BJP had targeted renovations at Kejriwal’s former residence at Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines, accusing him of excessive spending on interiors.

Chadha’s latest remarks signal a sharp political shift, as he joins former colleagues in criticising the leadership he once defended, intensifying the ongoing political battle in the national capital.
