CWG 2026: Rupa Rani-Pinki Continue Winning Run, India Faces Mixed Results in Glasgow

Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh remain unbeaten as India experiences ups and downs across disciplines.

“CWG 2026 India performance witnessed a mix of victories and setbacks as Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh continued their impressive run in bowls, while Indian athletes faced challenges in several other events at Glasgow.”

The women’s bowls pair of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh maintained their unbeaten run in the tournament after securing a thrilling victory over Tonga. The Indian duo won the match 5-2, 4-6, 1-0 in a deciding tiebreaker to register their third straight win in the sectional stage.

In men’s singles bowls, Putul Sonowal suffered his first defeat of the competition against Malaysia’s Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple. Sonowal attempted a comeback after falling behind early, but the Malaysian player held his nerve to claim an 8-4, 9-8 victory. The result pushed Sonowal to second place in his group, with his semifinal hopes now depending on the remaining section results.

India’s women’s artistic gymnastics team narrowly missed out on medal contention after finishing fifth in their subdivision. The team, featuring Olympian Pranati Nayak, Nishka Agarwal, Protistha Samanta and Eshitaa Rewale, recorded a total score of 93.150. However, Pranati and Protistha remained in the race for individual vault qualification.

The women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball team endured a difficult start to their campaign, losing their opening Group B match against Wales. The Indian side will look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures against Scotland and Nigeria.

In swimming, Indian athletes Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra could not make the final of the men’s 400m freestyle event. Dhakshan finished seventh in his heat, while national record holder Nehra also missed the qualification mark.

India did have a positive result in boxing, with Sachin Siwach advancing to the men’s 60kg round of 16 after defeating Canada’s Keoma Al-Ahmadieh. His victory added another win for India’s boxing contingent at the Glasgow Games.

With several events still underway, India will aim to build on its victories and strengthen its medal campaign in the remaining competitions.
