President Droupadi Murmu Highlights Social Harmony at Samajik Samrasta Mahotsava in Gandhinagar

Stresses unity, education and equality as pillars of inclusive national development

Gandhinagar, April 14, 2026: President Droupadi Murmu attended the Samajik Samrasta Mahotsava at Lok Bhavan in Gandhinagar on Tuesday, marking the birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar and emphasizing the importance of social harmony for the country’s progress.

Addressing the gathering, the President paid tribute to Dr Ambedkar, describing his contributions to nation building as multifaceted and deeply influential. She highlighted his role not only as the chief architect of the Constitution but also as a legal expert, economist and social reformer whose work shaped several key sectors of governance.

She noted that greater awareness of Ambedkar’s contributions in areas such as the banking system, irrigation development, electricity infrastructure and labour frameworks would help citizens better appreciate his vision for India.

President Murmu also stressed the importance of education, calling it a fundamental pillar for social transformation. She pointed out that constitutional provisions ensure educational opportunities for marginalized communities and urged society to support their access to learning.

Highlighting the link between education and harmony, she said that holistic and value based education plays a vital role in strengthening unity and social cohesion.

The President underlined that compassion and social harmony go hand in hand, adding that true unity emerges when people rise above divisions of caste, class, language and region.

She emphasized that equality and mutual respect are essential for building a cohesive society where all citizens feel included and valued.

Speaking on development, she said that harmony is crucial for achieving inclusive and balanced growth across the country.The President also appreciated initiatives in Gujarat aimed at promoting social cohesion through activities such as environmental conservation, sanitation drives and welfare programmes.

Referring to Dr Ambedkar’s vision, she reiterated the enduring relevance of social democracy, which is rooted in the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity.She concluded by urging citizens to uphold these values in their daily lives to strengthen the nation’s unity and progress.
