Gorakhpur, January14, 2025: Upholding the revered traditions of the Nath Panth, Goraksha Peethadheeshwar and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered the sacred khichdi of devotion to Shivavtar, Mahayogi Gorakhnath, at the Gorakhnath Temple during the auspicious Brahma Muhurta on Makar Sankranti.
On this holy occasion, Yogi Adityanath sought Baba Gorakhnath’s blessings for the well-being of all citizens, a harmonious life for everyone, and the nation’s prosperity. Following the ritual offering, the Chief Minister extended heartfelt greetings and best wishes for Makar Sankranti to saints, devotees, and citizens across the country.
Addressing the media, Yogi Adityanath highlighted the deep spiritual and cultural significance of Makar Sankranti. He described it as a festival that honors the Sun God, the sustainer of life, and reflects India’s rich Sanatan Dharma traditions. “Makar Sankranti is celebrated with immense devotion and gratitude under various names across the country,” he remarked.
He elaborated on the regional diversity of the festival, noting that it is observed as Bihu in Assam, Lohri in Punjab, Pongal in southern states, Tilwa Sankranti in Bengal and Maharashtra, and Khichdi Sankranti in North India. He emphasized how the festival symbolizes unity, joy, and social harmony, fostering a spirit of togetherness within Indian society.
Yogi Adityanath expressed his honor in being able to offer khichdi at Baba Gorakhnath’s feet at this sacred temple, describing it as a blessing and privilege. He also took the opportunity to congratulate saints and devotees on the first Amrit Snan of the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh.
The Chief Minister highlighted the grand scale of the Maha Kumbh at the confluence of the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati in Prayagraj. He noted that nearly two crore devotees performed holy dips on Monday, with thousands more participating during the Brahma Muhurta on Tuesday. He also acknowledged the global appeal of the event, which attracts followers of Sanatan Dharma and international pilgrims inspired by the spiritual essence of the Maha Kumbh.
He underlined the message of unity conveyed by festivals like Makar Sankranti and urged everyone to preserve social harmony and uphold India’s timeless traditions. Additionally, he appealed to devotees to maintain cleanliness at pilgrimage sites by avoiding single-use plastics and refraining from littering.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the efforts of government bodies, the administration, and voluntary organizations in ensuring seamless arrangements for the comfort and convenience of saints and devotees.
Yogi Adityanath concluded by emphasizing that Makar Sankranti is more than a festival; it is a profound expression of gratitude, spirituality, and unity that strengthens the fabric of Indian society.
