Patna, 12 December : Bihar Government Plans to Upgrade Patna’s Moin-ul-Haq Stadium to International Level
The Bihar government is taking a historic decision aimed at upgrading the sports infrastructure in Bihar by transferring the famous stadium, Moin-ul-Haq in Patna, to Bihar Cricket Association. For several decades, this stadium served as a symbol of cricket legacy in Bihar, but soon this stadium will undergo complete and massive transformation to modern multigame complexes. This ambitious project is likely to cost Rs 400 crore and will seat 40,000. The stadium is one of the biggest in the region. Construction work will begin early next year and should be complete by 2027. It will become a hub for international and domestic sports events that will take Bihar to the forefront of the country‘s sports map.
Comprehensive Facilities that Match International Standards
The new stadium will complement cricket with a host of other sports and leisure facilities. The complex will have 76 corporate boxes and VIP seating patterns that can accommodate 250 visitors. There will also be the best infrastructure for athletes in this stadium, such as
An ultra–modern hostel for players.
A hotel to accommodate visiting teams and officials.
Exclusive badminton and volleyball courts.
A state-of-the-art swimming pool for aquatic sports.
Sports tourism and revenue-generating infrastructure is also envisaged as part of the vision. The corporate boxes and seating upgradation is aimed at making the place a premier destination for high-profile events, conferences, and cultural activity.
Bihar Cricket gets a Boost
Bihar Cricket Association president Rakesh Kumar Tiwari expressed gratitude for the support given by the government and called it a game-changer for Bihar’s sports scenario. He said the association would not compromise on the timeline for completing the redevelopment, so the stadium would be ready to host international cricket matches as well as other major events.
“This is the new turning point of Bihar’s sports. It would increase the popularity of cricket not only in the state but also raise a generation of sportswomen,” said Tiwari.
Government Initiative and Vision
The state government has taken the extra mile to facilitate the project. Further to transferring the land to the BCA, the government waived a huge land registry fee, ensuring the smooth and financially viable development process. It is thought of as part of the government‘s overall strategic investment towards infrastructure that will improve the involvement of youths and, by extension, stimulate the economy. Decades of sporting history have been witnessed at Moin-ul-Haq, the stadium named after a freedom fighter. It has long been overdue for modernization. The redevelopment of the planned structure is not merely the upgrading of a structure but more about reimagining a landmark that could be a pride for Bihar and a significant contributor to its cultural and sporting legacy.
The transformation of Moin-ul-Haq Stadium into a world-class multi-sport complex is expected to bring in many opportunities for this place, including jobs during construction phases and operational roles after it is completed. There would be tourists and sports persons from all over the country, and even abroad, that this modern amenity would bring in.
The project is expected to herald a new era for sports in Bihar as construction commences in 2024. The state, through its completion, aims to position itself as a strong contender on the global stage of sports, thus reaping long-term benefits for its athletes and citizens.
