Iran Warns Gulf Oil Supply Could Halt Amid Escalating US Economic Pressure

Tehran, August 24, 2026; Iran has issued a stark warning that oil shipments from the Persian Gulf could be brought to a complete halt if Washington intensifies its economic campaign against the country.

The warning comes as the United States prepares additional sanctions aimed at Iran and entities involved in its international trade. US President Donald Trump has described the planned measures as an exceptionally severe economic operation against Tehran and warned countries continuing commercial ties with Iran of serious consequences.

Iranian officials have responded by raising the possibility of disrupting oil exports across the Gulf, including routes linked to the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is a major global energy corridor through which a significant volume of international oil supplies passes.

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Tehran would consider participation in the US economic campaign against Iran as hostile action.
