Manipur: Militants Arrested, Large Cache of Arms and Explosives Recovered Along Border

Joint operations by security forces lead to arrests of suspects, including a police personnel, with major arms and explosives haul near the Indo-Myanmar border

Imphal: Security agencies intensified counter-insurgency operations in Manipur on Monday, leading to multiple arrests and significant recovery of weapons and explosives from areas near the Indo-Myanmar border.

Officials confirmed that two individuals, including a serving police personnel, were taken into custody for their alleged links with a banned insurgent outfit. The accused were apprehended from separate locations in Thoubal district following intelligence inputs about their involvement in unlawful activities.

During the operation, authorities seized a service weapon along with live ammunition. Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested individuals had been assisting members of the prohibited group Kangleipak Communist Party.

In a parallel crackdown, security forces, with assistance from Assam Police, detained another suspected militant from Hojai district in Assam. Officials stated that the individual was associated with the banned People’s Liberation Army and was allegedly involved in extortion-related activities.

Search operations carried out in sensitive and fringe areas also led to the discovery of a large quantity of arms and explosives. Recovered items included improvised weapons, grenades, mortar shells, rocket-propelled grenade rounds and assault rifles, along with hundreds of live cartridges of various calibres.

Separate operations conducted near the border areas yielded additional recoveries, highlighting ongoing concerns over illegal arms movement in the region.

Police officials stated that such coordinated efforts will continue as part of broader measures to maintain stability and counter insurgent activities. Authorities added that, despite these developments, the overall law and order situation in the state has remained under control in recent hours.
