Manipur: Bomb Attack in Bishnupur Claims Lives of Two Young Children

Fresh violence reported from Moirang Tronglaobi area amid lingering ethnic tensions

Bishnupur (Manipur):  A tragic incident unfolded in Manipur’s Bishnupur district early Tuesday morning, where an explosive attack targeting a residential area led to the deaths of two minor children and left their mother injured, according to officials.

The blast occurred in Moirang Tronglaobi locality during the early hours, reportedly around 1 a.m., when an explosive device struck a civilian home. The victims include a five-year-old boy and an infant girl, both of whom succumbed to the impact of the explosion.

Authorities suspect the involvement of armed militants linked to ongoing ethnic unrest in the region. The injured woman, believed to be the children’s mother, was immediately rushed for medical treatment and is currently under care.

Security forces have intensified surveillance in and around the affected locality following the attack. The Bishnupur district, particularly Moirang Tronglaobi, has remained sensitive due to repeated incidents of violence during the ethnic clashes witnessed over the past two years.

Officials stated that an investigation has been initiated to identify those responsible and prevent further escalation. Additional forces have been deployed to maintain law and order and reassure residents.

Manipur has experienced prolonged unrest since 2023, with periodic outbreaks of violence between different communities. Despite multiple security measures, sporadic attacks continue to raise concerns about stability in the state.
