Bamboo and cane artisans, numbering around 1.2 lakh, will benefit from lower taxes on furniture, baskets, mats, and wooden crafts, supporting small enterprises and self-help groups (SHGs).

Packaged Arabica coffee will now attract 5% GST instead of 18%. Around 10,000 coffee growers in Ukhrul, Senapati, and Chandel will benefit from reduced costs, improved profitability, and greater global competitiveness. The reforms are also expected to encourage organic and sustainable farming.

Stone Carving and Sculpture Boost:
Manipur’s 50,000 stone artisans in Imphal, Churachandpur, and Ukhrul will benefit from a GST reduction from 12% to 5% on ceramic tableware. This move lowers production costs, improves market reach, and helps preserve the state’s traditional carving techniques.

Processed Food and Dairy Sectors:
Around 1.5 lakh workers in food processing will benefit from the GST cut to 5% on items such as pickles, bamboo shoots, fermented foods, and vegetable preparations. Dairy farmers and cooperative members, over 1 lakh in number, will also gain as GST on ghee, butter, paneer, and cheese falls to Nil/5%, enhancing profitability and affordability for consumers.

Inclusive Growth and Market Competitiveness:
The GST reforms are expected to empower local communities, preserve traditional livelihoods, and make Manipur’s unique products more competitive nationally and internationally. Analysts say these measures mark a step toward balanced economic growth in the Northeastern region.
