Water Supply to Be Hit in Parts of Delhi Due to Chandrawal Plant Shutdown

Several Central and North Delhi Areas to Face Low Pressure or Disruption Till Tomorrow

Water supply across several parts of the national capital will be impacted following a temporary shutdown of operations at the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant, officials from the Delhi Jal Board confirmed.

The disruption is due to urgent maintenance work, with authorities stating that operations at Chandrawal Water Works-2 will remain suspended for a few hours. As a result, residents in multiple localities may experience either a complete interruption or reduced water pressure on April 15 and 16.

Areas Likely to Be Affected

The shutdown is expected to impact several prominent areas, including:

According to officials, the plant shutdown is scheduled for a limited duration on April 15, but the ripple effect may continue into the following day. During this period, households could face inconsistent supply or low pressure in taps.

Authorities indicated that the current repair work is relatively minor compared to last month’s major disruption, when flooding at the facility caused significant damage to equipment and halted operations for several days.

The Chandrawal plant, one of the oldest water treatment facilities in Delhi, has experienced multiple operational issues in recent times, raising concerns about infrastructure reliability.

Residents in affected areas have been urged to use water judiciously and plan their consumption in advance. The Delhi Jal Board has also advised people to reach out to its helpline services if water tankers are required during the disruption period.
