Death Toll Climbs to 14 in Chhattisgarh Boiler Blast at Power Plant

Over 20 Injured, Several Critical as Probe Ordered into Industrial Accident

The number of fatalities in the boiler explosion at a power facility in Chhattisgarh has risen to 14, with more than 20 workers injured in the incident that took place in Singhitarai village of Sakti district.

According to officials, those injured are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals in Raigarh, while five critically hurt individuals have been shifted to Raipur for advanced medical care.

Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur confirmed the casualty figures and said that medical teams are closely monitoring the condition of the injured.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for each victim’s family. Those injured will receive ₹50,000 as compensation.

He also directed authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion and assured that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible. The state government has committed to providing free and proper medical treatment to all those affected.

Preliminary findings suggest that the explosion may have been triggered by a leak in a high-pressure steam pipeline connected to the boiler system. Officials have ordered a magisterial probe to determine the exact sequence of events.

The incident occurred at a plant operated by Vedanta Limited, where workers associated with a subcontractor were present at the time of the blast. The subcontractor involved has been identified as NTPC GE Power Services Limited.

Plant authorities indicated that multiple injured workers remain in critical condition, and arrangements are being made to airlift some of them for specialized treatment if required.

The tragedy has once again raised concerns over industrial safety standards and emergency preparedness at large-scale power facilities in the region.
