New Delhi: Discontent is rising among central government employees as delays in the announcement of Dearness Allowance (DA) have triggered plans for nationwide protests. Employee unions have decided to stage coordinated demonstrations on April 16, expressing frustration over the prolonged wait for a decision that is usually declared on time.
According to union sources, employees across various government departments are preparing to hold symbolic protests during office hours. These demonstrations are expected to take place during lunch breaks and are intended to send a strong message to the authorities without significantly disrupting official work.
The primary demand of employee organizations is the immediate declaration of both Dearness Allowance (DA) for serving employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners. Representatives have already communicated their concerns to the top administrative authorities, urging swift action.
Employees from multiple departments—including Income Tax, Postal Services, Agriculture, and scientific bodies like the Botanical Survey and Geological Survey—are likely to participate in the coordinated action.
Since the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission, DA revisions have generally followed a predictable schedule. However, this year’s delay has broken that pattern, leading to growing uncertainty and dissatisfaction among employees.
Many staff members had expected an announcement around the Holi period, as seen in previous years. The continued silence well into April has intensified concerns and fueled calls for protest.
While the April 16 protest is planned as a limited and peaceful demonstration, unions have indicated that further steps could be considered if their demands are not addressed promptly. Employees aim to draw the government’s attention and push for an early resolution.
Both serving employees and pensioners are now closely watching developments, hoping for clarity and relief in the coming days.
