Sudan: Torrential rains and floods have resulted in the deaths of 32 people and left 107 others injured

In Sudan, the severe torrential rains and subsequent floods have claimed at least 32 lives and left 107 individuals injured. According to the Health Ministry, the floods have impacted seven states, resulting in significant damage with over 5,500 homes affected. The intense rainfall has also led to outbreaks of watery diarrhea, which is exacerbated by the poor sanitation conditions following the floods.

The Ministry of Health is actively addressing the situation by implementing measures to manage and mitigate the impact of these rainy season-related health issues. This includes providing medical aid and support to affected communities, and deploying resources to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.

Flooding is a recurring problem in Sudan, typically occurring from June to October each year. The country faces challenges in managing these seasonal floods due to inadequate infrastructure and the frequent lack of effective drainage systems. The government and humanitarian organizations are working to offer relief and aid to the affected populations, aiming to provide shelter, clean water, and medical care to those in need.
