Assam Floods 2026 have intensified after at least 21 people lost their lives in a single day, taking the state’s flood-related death toll this year to 31. More than 5.6 lakh people have been affected across 16 districts, making it one of the worst flood situations in the state this year.
Among the affected districts, Sivasagar has emerged as the worst-hit, with widespread inundation damaging homes, roads, agricultural land, and public infrastructure. Several villages remain cut off due to submerged roads and overflowing rivers, hampering transportation and access to essential services.
Rescue and relief operations have been intensified by the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, which are assisting the state administration in evacuating stranded residents, distributing food, drinking water, medicines, and other essential supplies. Emergency teams continue to monitor the situation as authorities work to reach affected communities.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and district administrations are coordinating relief efforts, while officials remain on high alert amid forecasts of continued rainfall in several parts of the state.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to visit the flood-affected areas on July 22 to assess the ground situation, review relief and rehabilitation measures, and interact with affected residents and officials overseeing rescue operations.
The state government has appealed to people living in vulnerable areas to remain alert, follow official advisories, and cooperate with rescue teams as efforts continue to minimize the impact of the floods.
