In South Korea, the death toll from the extreme heat wave has risen to 14. The Interior Ministry reported that 1,690 people have been affected by heat-related illnesses.
Since June, the extreme heat has also led to the deaths of over 300,000 livestock. Most regions of the country are currently under heat wave warnings, with the weather agency forecasting that the heat wave could persist until at least the 15th of this month.
On Sunday, temperatures in Yeoju, located 64 kilometers southeast of Seoul, soared to 40 degrees Celsius, marking the first occurrence of such high temperatures since 2018, which was noted as the hottest year on record.
Last week, the Interior Ministry issued its highest heat wave warning level, classified as serious, and upgraded its response posture to Level 1, the highest level. The Ministry has advised people to avoid outdoor activities and seek cooler environments if experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, or headaches.
