Amit Shah Pays Tribute to Pingali Venkayya on Birth Anniversary

Home Minister honours the designer of the Tricolour, says his contribution to India's freedom movement continues to inspire the nation

New Delhi, Aug. 2, 2026 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday paid tributes to Pingali Venkayya, the freedom fighter who conceptualised the design of India’s national flag, on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

In a message shared on social media, Shah described Venkayya’s contribution to the nation as immortal, saying the Tiranga remains a symbol of India’s pride, unity and aspirations.

He also praised Venkayya’s role in the freedom movement and his contributions to various fields of knowledge, stating that his life and work continue to inspire generations of Indians.

Pingali Venkayya is widely remembered for conceptualising the design of the Indian national flag, which was later adopted as the Tricolour. His contribution remains an enduring part of India’s independence movement and national heritage.
