Thai Senate President Mongkol Surasajia highlights green economic growth, social inclusion, ethical AI governance and global partnerships at the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi.

New Delhi, October 27, 2026: President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Mongkol Surasajia, called for stronger parliamentary cooperation, sustainable economic policies and inclusive development while addressing the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum being held in New Delhi from October 25 to 28.

Speaking during the fourth plenary session on “Sustainability: The Role of Parliaments in Fostering a Sustainable and Inclusive Future for Our Nations,” the Thai Senate President emphasised that achieving long-term sustainability requires coordinated efforts across economic, environmental, social and technological sectors.

Expressing appreciation to India for hosting the international gathering, Surasajia acknowledged the importance of parliamentary dialogue in addressing global development challenges.

Highlighting Thailand’s commitment to the forum’s overarching theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” Surasajia outlined four essential dimensions for achieving sustainable and inclusive growth.

The first focuses on economic and environmental sustainability through Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model. He highlighted the country’s efforts to promote clean energy legislation, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen climate resilience.

The second dimension centres on social inclusion and equality. Thailand, he said, prioritises strong social protection systems, women’s empowerment, youth development and equitable access to opportunities for vulnerable communities.

The third dimension emphasises technological innovation and responsible digital transformation. Surasajia stressed the importance of ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance and developing Digital Public Infrastructure to reduce technological disparities and accelerate sustainable development.

The fourth dimension addresses human security and global connectivity, including food security, healthcare resilience, disaster preparedness and stronger regional and international partnerships.

During his address, Surasajia reaffirmed Thailand’s willingness to act as a “Trusted Connector” between different regions and international cooperation frameworks.

He highlighted Thailand’s hosting of the 2026 International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group Annual Meetings from October 12 to 18, where sustainable development featured prominently in international discussions.

The Thai Senate President reiterated his country’s commitment to facilitating international dialogue and strengthening partnerships aimed at advancing global sustainability.

He also emphasised Thailand’s readiness to welcome international delegations and contribute to collaborative efforts addressing shared economic, environmental and development challenges.

Underscoring the importance of legislative institutions, Surasajia stated that the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) cannot be achieved without effective parliamentary cooperation.

He called upon BRICS member nations and partner countries to strengthen legislative partnerships, exchange policy experiences and develop coordinated approaches to sustainable development.

The Thai Senate President emphasised the need to harmonise legal standards and establish fair development financing mechanisms that support developing economies without creating excessive debt burdens.

He further highlighted the responsibility of parliaments in translating international commitments into effective national policies and ensuring that development initiatives benefit all sections of society.

Call for a Sustainable and Inclusive Global Future

Concluding his address, Surasajia urged parliamentarians to work collectively towards building a sustainable, prosperous and inclusive future.

He reaffirmed that legislative cooperation, responsible innovation, environmental protection and equitable economic opportunities must remain central to international development efforts.

Thailand’s participation in the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum reflects its commitment to strengthening multilateral engagement and promoting sustainable development through cooperation among national legislatures.

The forum provides a platform for parliamentary representatives to exchange perspectives on global challenges and explore collaborative approaches to building resilient and inclusive societies.
