New Delhi, October 28, 2026: Jio Platforms Ltd made a strong entry into the Indian stock market on Wednesday, with its shares climbing 26.64% above the initial public offering (IPO) price as investors responded positively to the country’s largest-ever public issue.
The shares were trading at ₹1,417.10 on the BSE at 3:13 pm, up ₹59.10, or 4.35%, from the opening price. Against the IPO issue price of ₹1,119 per share, the stock was trading ₹298.10 higher.
The strong debut followed an overwhelming response to the company’s ₹30,188-crore IPO, which attracted subscriptions worth 22.19 times the shares on offer. The issue received approximately 1.3 crore applications, highlighting significant interest from institutional and retail investors.
Qualified institutional buyers led the subscription figures, bidding for their reserved portion 70.55 times. The non-institutional investor category was subscribed 14 times, while retail investors subscribed 2.72 times their allotted portion. The employee and Reliance Industries shareholder categories also received substantial interest.
The offering, which opened on October 21 and closed on October 23, drew total demand of around ₹7.5 lakh crore, including the anchor investor portion, according to reports.
Jio Platforms’ shares initially listed at around ₹1,358 on the BSE and NSE, representing a premium of approximately 21.36% over the issue price. The stock subsequently moved higher during the trading session.
Following the listing, Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, said the response to the IPO had exceeded the company’s expectations. He described the market debut as the beginning of another phase in Jio’s development and emphasised its responsibility towards investors.
Ambani also highlighted the company’s ambition to expand access to advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital services. The focus, he said, would be on making emerging technologies more accessible and affordable for people across India.
Jio has also identified satellite connectivity and next-generation 6G technology as potential areas for future development, alongside its existing mobile, broadband and enterprise digital services.
Jio Platforms is the telecommunications and digital services arm of Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani. With a customer base exceeding 530 million, the company has become a major player in India’s digital connectivity market.
The IPO marks a significant milestone for the Reliance group and supports its broader strategy of expanding beyond its traditional energy and petrochemicals businesses into technology and consumer services.
The company’s stock market performance will remain closely watched as investors assess its growth prospects in telecommunications, artificial intelligence, cloud services and other emerging technology segments. While the strong debut reflects substantial market interest, future performance will depend on business growth, competition, capital expenditure and broader market conditions.
