The MoU was exchanged in the presence of CSIR Director General and DSIR Secretary Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Nalanda University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sachin Chaturvedi, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, Rudrendra Tandon, along with senior scientists, faculty members and officials from both institutions.
Under the agreement, the two institutions will work together on technology deployment, rural development, environmental sustainability, skill enhancement and scientific outreach. The collaboration also seeks to increase the global visibility of indigenous technologies developed by CSIR.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sachin Chaturvedi said the partnership would help implement science-driven solutions in villages surrounding Nalanda through projects related to solid waste management, water quality improvement, environmental conservation and model village development. He stressed that scientific innovations should directly benefit society and improve the quality of life in rural communities.
Rudrendra Tandon said the collaboration aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of developing Nalanda University into a globally recognised centre of excellence. He noted that the partnership with CSIR would strengthen research, innovation and international academic cooperation while benefiting students and local communities.
Dr. N. Kalaiselvi described the MoU as a milestone for both institutions, highlighting Nalanda University’s diverse international student community as an ideal platform to showcase India’s scientific achievements. She also proposed launching focused societal missions in the initial phase to demonstrate measurable impact in nearby regions.
A key feature of the partnership will be the establishment of a CSIR Technology Gallery on the Nalanda University campus. The gallery will display indigenous technologies developed by CSIR laboratories, offering students, researchers and international visitors an opportunity to explore India’s scientific innovations.
The agreement is expected to serve as a model for science-led sustainable development by integrating research, technology and community engagement to address social and environmental challenges across the country.
